This series is based on the beautiful song “Promise is a Pendulum” by Big Thief. I fell in love with the beautiful lyrics which explored failed relationships, longing, and building back the pieces. I encourage you to follow the link provided to listen to it in its entirety.

In this lyric, listening signifies acknowledging the quiet things that connect us. The ecosystem which supports the moss which supports the snail which supports the forest floor and therefore the forest itself. Makes me contrast this with the little things that support our lives and relationships with each other. I painted the moss and snail in conjunction with the woodland path to mirror the shape of the inner ear.
